 Cruel Crown
Victoria Aveyard

THIS REVIEW HAS SPOILERS FROM RED QUEEN. PLEASE DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT READ RED QUEEN. THANKS!

Cruel Crown is a collection of two prequel novellas to Red Queen. Since there are two novellas, I will review them separately.

Queen Song

Queen Song tells the story of the late Queen Coraine Jacos, mother of Cal and brother of Julian. Coraine falls in love with Prince Tiberias the fifth and marries him for love instead of performing in the Queenstrial. Corraine is sadly tortured to suicide by Elara Merandus at the end. This story was fantastic, I gave it 4 out of 5 stars. I loved hearing about the high courts and I loved seeing more of Corraines story and how she was so much like Cal.

Steel Scars

Steel Scars is the story of Captain Farley's trip to Norta and setting up roots for the Scarlet Guard. Farley meets a young solider named Shade <3 who has a strange power. I gave this a 3 out of 5 stars because it was not as exciting. It showed the other sides of the story of Red Queen, but there really wasn't much to show. It was almost exactly what was given to us about the Scarlet Guard in Red Queen and Glass Sword.

Glass Sword (4/5)

Glass Sword
Victoria Aveyard

Glass Sword is the sequel to Red Queen, where Mare Barrow has just been betrayed by her friend and betrothed, King Maven. Mare is on the hunt, looking for more people like her, a mix of red and silver. She is joined by the scarlet guard and Cal, but Mare feels as if she still can't trust anyone.

This was a great sequel.  The pace of the book is very fast, but then it gets slower as the book goes on. The pace of Red Queen was a lot more enjoyable, but this book was still nice. It's a great sequel in that it satisfys a lot of feelings and questions from Red Queen, but it makes more to be desired from a third book. This series keeps stressing "Anyone can betray anyone" which makes me not trust anyone and honestly gives me anxiety :)

I gave this book 4/5 stars. It's a great sequel and it you like Red Queen you will love Glass Sword.

You Were Here Review!

Red Queen (4/5)

Red Queen
Victoria Aveyard

Red Queen tells the story of Mare Barrow, a poor girl in a world divided by blood. The reds work and serve the silvers, who are the high and mighty race, (and they also have sick super powers) While thieving to save her family, Mare is given a job by a kind man, who turns out to be a prince. While working in the castle, Mare discovers that she is something strange. She has red blood, but she has the power of a silver. Mare is passed off as a long lost princess, and must keep up the charade to save her life and her family. However, "anyone can betray anyone"

This book is great. The pace is fantastic, captivating the reader from the first page. Even though the dystopian troupe is so overused, this book somehow still prevails while being dystopian. The glittering and deadly details of the silvers and their palace captivated me, and the adventure and action keeps you on the edge of your seat. I gave this book 4 stars. It was great, but not what I would consider a favorite. I feel like i did not obsess over this book like the rest of the world, but i still thoroughly enjoyed reading it. And I can't wait to read the sequel that recently came out.
